The Villa Adriana (at Tivoli, near Rome) is an exceptional complex of classical buildings created in the 2nd century A.D. by the Roman emperor Hadrian. I keep a special part of the Villa in my memory: The Canopus. Last time I visited the complex I stood there for hours, leisurely enjoying the atmosphere and drawing.
Although I must confess the trip to arrive there was an adventure: I went on bicycle form the Trastevere to Villa Adriana. “It is only 50km”, I thought. But the Via Tiburtina that connects Rome to Tivoli is not as “romantic” nor “bucolic” as the name recalls (at least for me!)
