desenho em viagem

hugo_04-14003_malagueira-bar_rps At Malagueira, the social neighbourhood Álvaro Siza designed in the 70’s in Évora, we can still find the old bar, designed also by the hand of the architect. Although, nowadays is not totally original, we can still find a great part of the first project, as well the nice furniture designed 40 years ago by the Pritzker.

I like experiment on “my drawing”, like here, where I tried to mainly define this corner of Mértola with strong and emphasized shadow shapes. Maybe this Edding line is too strong, but it creates a kind of autonomous form that is appealing to me!

mértola 4 140 08_cort- peq- r_pmértola 4 14010_cort- peq- r_pmértola 4 14009_r_pCorte Pequena is a tiny little village near Mértola, that caught my attention for the humble and organic architecture of its dwellings. They were so simple, based on secular constructive traditions, thought totally adapted to the site and climatic conditions; they couldn’t be more efficient!

My Friend Rui Cunha, invited me to a drawing workshop (desenho em viagem) in the south of Portugal, that turned out to combine (very well) gastronomy and sketches.
In the first morning, after a couple of hours in Castro Verde( http://wp.me/pLtki-1HO) , crossing some nice buildings, we ended up in a tavern, drinking wine and eating their specialty: goatling head! (http://wp.me/pLtki-1AT)
The periplus concluded three days after, in another famous tavern (where else?!) called “Adega Velha”. At nine o’clock in the morning we were already drinking red wine and drawing! No, I was not drunk since I used some of the wine to paint…

The innkeeper offered us more wine, suggesting tough I should not carry my drawing away, arguing it should be exposed at the tavern along with all the other drawings…

So, my sketch ended up hanged behind the bar, waiting for better days, until, as promised, the proper frame arrives.

Drawing doesn’t make us richer, but at least, it can make us happier…
